Marine Fossils
The Marine Fossils featured come from two different time periods. The Carboniferous and the Cretaceous periods. The Carboniferous is considered the "coal age" and the Cretaceous is considered the "age of the dinosaurs", all within the state of Alabama some 300 to 65 million years ago. Marine fossils can be found all over the state, most of these coming from active quarries or construction sites. The seas that covered the state teemed with underwater life from Fish, Bivalves, Brachiopods, Blastoids, Edrioasteroids (related to the starfish), Horned Coral, Obiculoideas (inarticulate brachiopod), and Crinoids as pictured here.
